Julie was born and raised in Vermont. After high school, she moved to Australia to earn a Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science from James Cook University, then later worked for several years in Seventh Generation’s Research & Development Department. In 2013, Julie relocated to Seattle to complete a Master’s Degree in Environmental Health and Professional Certificate in Nonfiction Writing from the University of Washington in Seattle. Julie returned to Vermont in 2018 to fulfill her dream of homesteading. She became a Certified Master Gardener through the University of Vermont Extension Program in 2020 and built a small homestead in Jericho, Vermont that includes two short-term rental (STR) accommodations amongst her gardens. In February 2021, Julie founded the Vermont Short-Term Rental Alliance (VTSTRA), the only business association and advocacy group for vacation rental owners and managers in Vermont, and has been advocating for fair and reasonable regulation of the STR industry ever since.
